Nationwide strike prevents couple from wedding at registry

A couple in the Eti-Osa area of Lagos couldn’t get married at the registry on Thursday due to the ongoing nationwide strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).

The body had announced the strike on Wednesday, saying it is protesting the minimum wage which is N18,000.

The couple spoke to BBC News Pidgin about how they’ve been begging officials to wed them.

He says his bride is devastated, na woman really get wedding o. I'm hoping there was no reception planned. Party rice will waste for nothing.
